In Historic Vote, Legislature Approves Republican Budget

Republicans made history today when they got their budget approved in the legislature in a state where Democrats control the House, Senate, and the Governor's office. The 2017 legislative session closed in June absent a single budget proposal from majority party Democrats. House Republicans led the charge on the budget during the session and through the summer, offering budget proposal after budget proposal. House Republicans, buoyed by support from municipal leaders, won over enough Democrats who were sick of tax schemes proposed by their party--including the latest ideas of installing new taxes on cell phones and second homes. The plan from Republicans included historic structural changes to the way state government operates.
